Heavy Quark Physics

COST THOR Joint Working Group 2 + Working Group 3 meeting

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together a small group of researchers working on improved understanding of heavy quark interactions in QCD matter, exploration of various drag and diffusion coefficients and comparison of propagation methods (Langevin vs. Boltzmann description) as well as education of ECIs and younger members of the heavy-ion physics and QCD community. The common working group meeting of WG2 and WG3 will discuss present issues of the open and hidden charm meson produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. It becomes evident over the last years that open and closed charm mesons are the most sensitive probe to study the properties of a quark-gluon plasma created in heavy-ion collisions at ultrarelativistic energies. Heavy quarks interact with the plasma but the plasma does not bring them to an equilibrium. Therefore the modification of the properties of heavy quarks reflects their interaction with the plasma. We intend to discuss the issues which are currently under debate: the production of heavy quarks in heavy-ion collisions, their interaction mechanism with the plasma particles, their hadronization and the possible existence of heavy mesons in the plasma close to Tc We will work on the definition of the strategy for sytematic exploration of the behavior of heavy quarks in hot medium; on guidelines for the comparison of relevant models for hot quark interaction in hot medium ad well as on definition of standards for the modeling of evolution of the hot medium.  


The meeting will start at 9am on Wednesday 6th September and finish at 5pm on Friday 8th September 2017.
The meeting and accomodation of participants will take place in the Hotel Cabo Verde.
The programme will be announced later.
